Install MarginEngine

Connect your Shopify store and get your first Briefing in under 5 minutes.

What you need

  • A Shopify store (any plan)
  • Owner or admin access to the store

That's it. No credit card required to start.

Step 1: Install from the Shopify App Store

Click Add app on the MarginEngine listing. Shopify will ask you to approve two sets of permissions:

  • Read access to orders, products, and store settings — this is how we calculate your Real Profit.
  • Write access to nothing — MarginEngine is read-only by default.

MarginEngine never modifies your Shopify store data. We only read orders and products to calculate your numbers.

Step 2: Approve the connection

After approving permissions, you'll land on the MarginEngine Briefing page. The system immediately starts syncing your Shopify orders.

You'll see a Syncing indicator in the top corner — this is normal. First sync typically takes 1–3 minutes depending on your order volume.

Step 3: Your first Briefing

Once sync completes, MarginEngine generates your first Briefing. This includes:

  • Net Revenue for the current period
  • Signals — money-relevant patterns detected in your data
  • Fog lines — things we can't see yet (usually Product Costs)

You'll likely see Fog on your first Briefing. This means MarginEngine doesn't know your Product Costs yet. That's expected — set them up next to clear the Fog and unlock margin Signals.
